Primary

Purpose:

To work in the absence of a regular teacher, aiding students in their daily tasks and helping ensure the understanding of the subject matter being covered.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma

60+ college hours (preferred)

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Knowledge of special needs of disadvantaged and at-risk students

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

* Use materials provided to attain lesson goals

* Direct the classroom, accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals outlined in the lesson plans

* Take attendance according to the procedures of the school, keep the classroom and work orderly, and maintain normal classroom rhythms

* Comply with all procedures, guidelines, and policies of the school at all times

* Maintain a professional attitude in all manner of conduct with students, faculty, and parents, including a commitment to confidentiality

* Provide academic assistance to assigned students, either in a group or individually.

* If necessary, attend periodic training sessions/meetings provided by Lubbock ISD staff to increase competency in working with students.

* Provide evaluations and other reports as requested.

* Help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.

* Help students develop self-confidence, raise self-concept, and reduce anxiety or fear of failure in academic work.

* Help students develop a high level of motivation in academic areas.

* Assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas.

* Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.

* Establish and maintain rapport with assigned student and his/her family.

* Serve as a role model/mentor for students being served.

General Employee Requirements:

* Support and align work with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the district.

* Follow and support board policies in areas of related responsibility.

* Ensure district resources are managed effectively to maximize resources for student learning.

* Share in the development and implementation of district success plans.

* Actively participate in ongoing development to improve work quality and district contribution.

* Model integrity, work ethic, and professionalism as a suitable example for LISD students.

* Participate in required staff development training programs to improve job performance.

* Participate in special events as assigned.
