Position Overview

P.J. Keating Company is seeking a Heavy Highway Construction Project Superintendent in Massachusetts. The role involves supervision of heavy highway construction contracts, planning, scheduling, directing, and coordinating activities of assigned projects to ensure goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters. Ability to work flexible shifts (day/night) and adapt to schedule/location changes is required.

Requirements / Qualifications
  • Ensure safety compliance for crews, subcontractors, and the public; adhere to company, contract, state, and federal safety standards (MUTCD, OSHA, etc.).
  • Supervise and coordinate all workers on projects, including subcontractors and vendors.
  • Develop and communicate project schedules to customers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure quality control plan and company quality standards are met.
  • Assume responsibility for P&L on projects.
  • Maintain and submit daily reports.
  • Track and document all work on a daily basis, including subcontractors.
  • Reconcile quantities and ensure accurate and timely payments for all work performed.
  • Analyze daily job cost reports and weekly trend reports; recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, final product quality, and crew performance.
  • Place orders for materials, trucks, and equipment as necessary.
  • Request and submit purchase orders ahead of time for required purchases.
  • Maintain compliance with all contract requirements.
  • Correspond with customers, subcontractors, administrative staff, and managers.
  • Maintain time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
  • Train new crew members.
  • Communicate daily with Project Manager and customers regarding status of projects, schedule, and payments.
  • Participate in the estimating and bidding process.
  • Preferred: ability to read plans/blueprints and basic survey knowledge.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s in construction management preferred.
  • Secondary education with construction management or civil focus preferred.
  • 5+ years of heavy highway construction supervision (MassDOT experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of MassDOT specifications and contract documents preferred.
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary: $90,000–$120,000 (based on experience) + night shift differential + bonus potential.
