Crane Aerospace and Electronics has an exciting opportunity for a Component and Failure Analysis Engineer II‑III (level will depend on experience) at our Lynnwood, WA location. This is an on‑site role.

Job Summary

The Component and Failure Analysis Engineer analyzes failures and construction of aerospace and defense electronic components and assemblies using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques. They perform tests and imaging to assess component integrity and compliance to specifications, and prepare and publish clear reports for internal and external use.

Essential Functions
  • Perform component‑level failure and construction analyses on a variety of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical components and assemblies used in aerospace and defense applications.
  • Use multiple tools during the analyses, including electrical test equipment, temperature chambers, X‑ray imaging, optical imaging, scanning electron microscopy, electron dispersive spectroscopy, and X‑ray fluorescence.
  • Prepare analysis reports for internal and external customers conveying complex information in a concise and insightful manner.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience:

    2+ years for Engineer II or 5+ years for Engineer III performing component‑level analysis in electronics equipment.
  • Knowledge:
    Demonstrated expertise performing analyses on a variety of EEE (Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical) components, understanding key characteristics and potential failure modes and mechanisms.
  • Skills/Abilities:
    Skilled with the listed tools, hands‑on evaluation of components and assemblies, development of new tool applications, prioritization, process improvement, judgment, and teamwork.
  • Education/Certification:

    BA or BS in Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical area.
  • Eligibility:
    May require access to Controlled Data or Information; only US Persons will be considered for positions requiring such access, in accordance with ITAR.
Working Conditions
  • Standard office and laboratory environment.
  • Requires substantial visual concentration and manual dexterity for sample cross‑sectioning and polishing.
  • Laboratory safety equipment may be required (eye safety glasses, gloves, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, etc.).
  • May be occasionally exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes.
  • Standing: 40% of the time;
    Sitting: 60% of the time;
    Lifting up to 20 lb;
    Pushing up to 20 lb.
  • Mental/visual tasks include use of computer and optical inspection equipment.
  • Workspace:
    Desk and laboratory work benches.

Salary Range

Engineer level II: $104,000–$123,000 USD annually.
Engineer level III: $124,800–$148,300 USD annually.
