Position OverviewThe Automation Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing custom machinery and automated systems from concept through installation. This role involves collaborating with customers, developing 3D designs, and supporting projects through fabrication and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities- Design custom automation equipment and machine systems using 3D CAD (Solid Works preferred)
- Develop concepts based on customer requirements and real-world manufacturing processes
- Create detailed drawings, assemblies, and documentation for fabrication and build
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure project success
- Support project timelines, budgets, and deliverables
- Assist with equipment installation and startup as needed
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement efforts
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred (or equivalent hands‑on machine design experience)
- 3+ years of machine design experience, ideally within automation or systems integration
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (Solid Works preferred; macro experience is a plus)
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems, tolerances, and assembly practices
- Hands‑on problem‑solving ability and willingness to engage on the shop floor when needed
- Ability to work independently, manage tasks, and meet deadlines
- Project management experience is a plus
- Strong communication skills with both internal teams and clients
- Experience designing automated equipment or robotic systems
- Ability to interpret customer needs and translate them into efficient, high‑quality designs
- Self‑starter who can manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
- Detail‑oriented with a focus on reducing rework and improving design efficiency
- Successfully deliver projects on time and within budget (typical project duration ~18 weeks)
- Produce accurate, high‑quality designs with minimal revisions
- Participate in regular project reviews to track progress and performance
- Approximately 10–15% overnight travel
- Occasional support during system installation (typically 3–5 days per project)
