Technical Lead, Software Development, Software Architect

Hybrid (Stoke-on-Trent / Manchester) | 2 days on-site

We’re looking for a hands‑on Technical Lead to join a high-performing engineering team working on the evolution of a large-scale, business‑critical platform.

This role offers the opportunity to shape technical direction across a complex, distributed system, contributing to both greenfield development and the re‑architecture of legacy services. You’ll play a key role in guiding engineers, influencing architecture, and delivering scalable, high‑performance solutions within a modern, data‑driven environment.

• Own and drive technical design across multiple services and projects
• Lead architectural decisions within a cloud‑based, distributed system
• Mentor and support engineers, promoting best practices and code quality
• Remain hands‑on, contributing to development where required
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, and Engineering teams
• Contribute to early‑stage solution design and technical planning

You don’t need experience across everything below, but exposure to similar technologies is important:

• Frontend: React, Type Script
• Data & Messaging: SQL, Kafka, event‑driven architectures

• Strong background in backend or full‑stack development (Java, C#, Python or similar)
• Experience as a Technical Lead or a senior engineer stepping into leadership
• Strong understanding of system design and scalable architecture
• Experience working in cloud environments
• Ability to mentor developers and communicate technical concepts clearly
• A hands‑on, pragmatic approach to engineering challenges
