The Opportunity

Are you an accomplished pastoral professional or inclusion specialist looking to advance your career within a highly impactful educational setting? We are seeking a dedicated, high-calibre Pastoral Lead to oversee student wellbeing, personal development, and inclusion strategies at an independent alternative education provision in Mansfield.

This is a critical position within our leadership structure, designed for a practitioner who excels at removing complex barriers to learning. Operating within a specialist environment, you will support a cohort of young people (aged 7-19) presenting with diverse SEND profiles, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Core Responsibilities
  • Strategic Pastoral Care: Plan, deliver, and review targeted 1:1 pastoral interventions and tutorial support designed to foster emotional resilience and academic engagement.

  • Conflict Resolution & De-escalation: Lead on restorative practices, mediation, and student de-briefs, ensuring a trauma-informed approach to behaviour management.

  • Safeguarding & Multi-Agency Liaison: Act as a key point of contact for safeguarding and attendance processes, representing the provision at multi-agency, local authority, and social care panels.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish robust, collaborative relationships with parents, carers, and external practitioners to create a unified network of support around each learner.

  • Data Analysis & Quality Assurance: Record, monitor, and analyse pastoral and behavioural data to evaluate the efficacy of interventions and inform personalised student programmes.

  • Operational Leadership: Provide line management and operational cover where required, contributing to whole-school wellbeing initiatives and PSHE delivery.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be a reflective, solution-focused professional who possesses exceptional emotional intelligence and the clinical calm required to manage complex scenarios.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Level 3 qualification (or above) in a relevant discipline (e.g., Education, Youth Work, Social Work, or Counselling), with Level 2 English and Maths.

  • Pastoral Expertise: Extensive, demonstrable experience in a dedicated pastoral, student support, or inclusion role.

  • Specialist SEND Knowledge: Proven success supporting young people with complex needs, neurodiversity (ASC), or acute mental health vulnerabilities.

  • Advanced De-escalation: Exceptional skills in utilising positive, non-punitive strategies to successfully de-escalate challenging behaviours.

  • Safeguarding Compliance: A comprehensive and up-to-date working knowledge of statutory safeguarding requirements within an educational context.

Prior experience within an Alternative Provision (AP), specialist resource provision, or college environment is highly advantageous.

Benefits and Culture

We offer a collaborative, multidisciplinary professional environment that prioritises a therapeutic, student-centred approach over punitive compliance. As a permanent, term-time-only position, this role provides an excellent work-life balance alongside opportunities for ongoing professional development and specialised training.
