(Casual On-Call)
School District No. 42 (SD42) meets the learning needs of approximately 16,000 students of all ages in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and is defined by its determination to keep student learning and growth at the heart of all its decisions. With an annual budget of over $200M and over 2,000 staff, the school district provides K-12 educational services in 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternate schools.
It also provides a variety of certificate programs and relevant quality life‑long learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.
SD42 is looking for qualified applicants interested in working as a casual Child and Youth Care Worker in our district. Child and Youth Workers assist with the implementation of universal, targeted and intensive supports to foster social/emotional learning within school communities. This work is performed in collaboration with the school-based team, under the direction of the counsellor, support teacher and/or classroom teacher, and under the supervision of the site-based administrator.
Works with students individually or in groups during and/or outside school hours, on school premises, in students’ home and in the community, as determined by their site-based supervisor. The job will vary according to the school context and needs of the environment.
Qualifications
Successful completion of Grade 12 plus completion of the Child/Youth Care Worker Diploma program or equivalent experience.
Six (6) months of practical experience working directly with at‑risk students preferably in a school setting.
Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team.
Ability to work without direct supervision and to communicate effectively within a work environment requiring a high degree of courtesy, tact and maintenance of confidentiality.
Conflict resolution training combined with the ability to coach and support the development of life skills.
Ability to intervene and diffuse potentially dangerous situations in line with District protocols, requiring successful completion of the Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention training.
Current knowledge of applicable social service agencies, programs, and school and community resources.
A valid BC driver’s license.
