About the Role

The New Avenues Dyslexia Program is a specialized "school-within-a-school" dedicated to supporting students with dyslexia who have above-average academic aptitude. As a Classroom Teacher, you will create a multisensory, student-centered learning environment, working with small groups of elementary students in a self-contained classroom (approximately 8–10 students). You will collaborate with fellow educators, Speech and Language Pathologists, and families to ensure that each student receives a tailored, research-based educational experience.

  • Teach a structured literacy small group using multisensory reading methodologies.
  • Provide engaging instruction across all core academic areas.
  • Foster self-advocacy, problem-solving, and a love for learning in your students.
  • Work closely with a team of dedicated educators and specialists.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress.
  • Contribute to the broader Walker School community through events, field trips, and school-wide initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree or higher in special education, learning disabilities, reading, or speech and language pathology.

  • Formal training in multisensory reading instruction (Orton-Gillingham or Wilson certification preferred).
  • Experience teaching students with dyslexia using evidence-based instructional methods.
  • Ability to interpret psycho-educational assessments and implement differentiated instruction.
  • A collaborative, energetic, and compassionate educator who is eager to grow professionally.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology that supports students with dyslexia.
