Missouri Valley College invites applications for a full-time on campus faculty member in ESL & English, within the School of Arts & Humanities. This position is a full-time, renewable, non-tenure track appointment.

The ESL/English Faculty member is responsible for academic advising and primarily teaching in ESL coursework, collaborating with colleagues regarding gateway English courses, collaborating across disciplines regarding writing-intensive courses, and other learning environments while fostering a supportive and engaging atmosphere that encourages active student participation, critical thinking, self-direction, communication competency, and professional development.

This individual should demonstrate the ability to support student success initiatives related to retention, and academic readiness while encouraging students to engage in scholarly activity, experiential learning, undergraduate research, and other professional development opportunities relevant to communication, writing, and interdisciplinary learning.

The faculty member is responsible for contributing to the development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of curriculum to ensure students are well prepared for academic success, workforce readiness, graduate study, and effective communication across disciplines. Responsibilities may include participation in assessment initiatives, placement review, gateway writing support efforts, writing-intensive programming, retention initiatives, curriculum review, and alignment with institutional student success priorities and current best practices in ESL and English instruction.

The position requires strong technological skills, effective written and oral communication, and collaborative ability, as well as the capacity to work productively with faculty colleagues, diverse student populations, advisors, and student support offices. The successful candidate should demonstrate an understanding of high-impact instructional practices, inclusive teaching strategies, and emerging educational technologies impacting writing instruction and student learning.

Faculty may also support institutional initiatives related to English placement, developmental support, ESL/multilingual learner success, writing-across-the-curriculum efforts, gateway course success, assessment, and retention initiatives as assigned by Academic Affairs. Additional responsibilities related to these institutional priorities may include reassigned time or stipend support.

The ESL/English Faculty member must demonstrate the knowledge and professional expertise necessary to support program quality, student learning outcomes, institutional effectiveness, and compliance with institutional expectations. This position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities.

Qualifications

* Master's degree required; terminal degree preferred.

* Degree in TESOL, English, Applied Linguistics, Education, or closely related field preferred.

* Experience teaching college-level ESL, English composition, developmental writing, or related coursework preferred.

* Prior experience in higher education is preferred.

* Experience supporting multilingual learners, co-requisite models, writing-intensive instruction, or student success initiatives preferred.

* Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and instructional technology skills required.
