About The Position

Prince George’s County Department of Social Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a temporary Human Resources Assistant/Onboarding Specialist, (Human Resources Assistant 1G) grade G13 position, in the Office of Human Resources Services.

This position is an administrative professional supporting the Administration Division. The position requires performing the duties usually associated with this class under the general supervision of the County Human Resources Manager.

The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services is in the business of providing opportunities for residents of the County to become independent, responsible and stable members of the community. We do this by providing intervention services that strengthen families, protect children and vulnerable adults, encourage self-sufficiency and promote personal responsibility. We assist our customers through such programs as Temporary Cash Assistance, Food Supplement Program, Medical Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and Foster Care and Adoption Service.

of Work Administrative Support & Recruitment
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees regarding standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, and other related matters; refers more complex questions to the appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department.
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
  • Facilitates the Department’s hire orientation.
  • Schedules interviews by coordinating with candidates and hiring managers.
Employee Services Processing and Support
  • Assists with Employee Assistance Program (EAP) referrals for County employees.
  • Assists Verifications of Employment for County employees.
  • Supports County new hires to ensure effective onboarding, paperwork processing, and tracking through the generation and maintenance of monthly new hire status reports.
  • Responds to requests for confidential documents and records and maintains the security of personnel records
  • Assists with releasing information to authorized persons, in accordance with personnel law and procedures.
  • Responds promptly to requests and ensures the accuracy of information drafted for the Manager.
  • Responds promptly to subpoenas, attorneys’ requests for copies of personnel files, and ensures information provided complies with relevant procedures.
Human Resources Records Management
  • Maintains position alignment information in the automated Human Resources Management/Payroll System.
  • Analyzes/validates all authorized personnel actions, including, but not limited to, acting pay/detail, new hires/rehires, separations/terminations, status changes, promotions, demotions, and miscellaneous salary adjustments to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
