The Field Service Professional is a skilled technician adept at performing a full range of equipment repairs and maintenance on light repairs across a variety of industrial equipment found within Home Depot and external customers’ retail locations and manufacturing facilities. Examples include paint shakers, carpet carousels, checkout stands, blind‑cutting machines, shopping carts, lifts, and more. The technician generally conducts maintenance and repairs in various locations within a reasonable radius of their home.
In some markets the role also includes general facilities maintenance and the removal of refrigerant for recycling.
- 30% Administrative and Communication – Use company technology platforms to document all work performed on equipment, including labor and parts. Maintain accurate parts inventories, complete and organize tech stock replenishment into the company vehicle, and proactively communicate with business partners and leaders regarding customer needs, parts, and equipment servicing. Communicate effectively with customers about requested and provided services.
- 10% Compliance and Safety – Perform all work in accordance with proper safety practices and Home Depot policies. Use sound judgment to address and eliminate safety‑related issues, comply with company safety, driving, and vehicle standards, and complete pre‑ and post‑vehicle inspections.
- 60% Repair and Maintenance – Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on industrial equipment both mechanically and electrically. Conduct proper inspections and testing of customer equipment in line with preventive maintenance plans. Maintain availability by phone and tablet during the work schedule to provide excellent customer service. Perform additional responsibilities and duties as required.
- Typically reports to Market Supervisor or Regional Equipment Services Manager.
- Has no direct reports.
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time.
- Requires intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion (walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment). Some activities may involve heavy or awkward loads.
- Typically in a comfortable environment but with exposure to temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes that may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
- Indoor and outdoor conditions with exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, oils, chemicals, and loud noises. Periods of prolonged standing or walking.
- Daily driving within the local market or territory.
- Limited overnight travel in selected markets.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
- Must possess a valid driver's license for the employment state.
- At least one year of experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment and conducting preventive maintenance on industrial and commercial equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical schematics.
- Versatile equipment maintenance and repair skill set.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, including fall protection and lock‑out/tag‑out procedures.
- Willingness to obtain EPA 608 certification and to perform refrigerant removal for recycling.
- Must reside within 15–20 miles of the target city.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑starter capable of working independently to drive customer satisfaction with a passion for equipment maintenance.
- Consistent and accurate documentation of work performed.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to convey complex or technical ideas in easy-to‑understand terms for diverse audiences.
- Negotiation, complaint handling, dispute resolution, and grievance resolution skills with internal and external customers.
