About the Role:
The PK-12 Director of Curriculum provides strategic leadership in the development, alignment, and evaluation of the district's instructional program to maximize student achievement. To maximize student achievement, the Director drives systemic continuity across all grade levels by combining current, research-based instructional methods with equitable access to high-quality learning materials for every student.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Establish and promote high standards and expectations for students and staff for academic performance and behavior
* Develop/Support Principals and Department Heads as Instructional Leaders
* Provide educational leadership in the development of curriculum and the implementation of instructional approaches in the district.
* Ensure coordination of services and articulation between and among schools.
* Support Administrators in the evaluation process, which includes but not limited to observations and written evaluations and serving as a secondary evaluator as needed
* Collect and analyze performance data including, but not limited to, state and district assessment regarding the achievement of students, work samples, and other pertinent information affecting the design and evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices.
* Support building administrators and instructional coaches in planning and conducting regular data meetings.
* Organize professional development, and ongoing curriculum development (UbD).
* Supervise and evaluate Instructional Coaches.
* Provide professional development and support to coaches on coaching teachers and the coaching cycle.
* Participate in PLCs on looking at student work with teachers, coaches and principals.
* In collaboration with building principals, observe classroom instruction to evaluate curriculum implementation (content, materials, pedagogy, pace and standards), student performance, and program effectiveness.
* Collaborates with school administrators on the supervision and evaluation of staff.
* Remain current in the research that supports curriculum development, instructional program design and delivery, and assessment in literacy and humanities.
* Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.
* Summarize, interpret and disseminate current developments in instruction, learning theory and cognitive research through reading of professional journals, participation in professional development and involvement in professional organizations.
* Demonstrate initiative, effective organizational and communication skills and the ability to motivate people.
* Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
* Demonstrate enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
* Attends DESE and other related outside organizational meetings
* Oversees adoption and implementation of new programs
* Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
* Graduate degree in a related field (master's degree preferred)
* Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary (DESE) license as Academic Administrator, Director
* 10 years teaching experience
* 3 years leadership experience preferred
Salary: $110,000-$125,000
