SIGN-ON BONUS
The successful candidate will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus ($500 paid at time of hire and $500 paid at the end of 90 days of employment.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Carpentry/Paint/Lock Shop, the Carpenter performs carpentry to support the maintenance needs of the Deerfield Academy campus buildings, dormitories, and residential spaces.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Respond to and complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
* Perform general maintenance and repair of buildings and assist with new construction to enhance academy properties. Ensure a high quality of workmanship.
* Construct, repair, or modify miscellaneous cabinetry and furniture as needed. Collaborate with other trades as necessary
* Assist with function and event setups, and campus moves as required;
* Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment at all times
* Comply with all Academy Safety Program policies and procedures while performing job duties, both on and off Academy property. Attend safety training as required. Attend professional development classes to stay current on building codes and licensure requirements and to expand knowledge of the trade and relevant changes within the trade
* Maintain carpentry shop, work area(s) and assigned work vehicle(s) in a clean and organized fashion at all times
* Coordinate supplies, equipment and materials purchases with Supervisor.
* Other duties as assigned
Job Specifications
* Completion of 12th grade
* 3-5 years work related experience in construction, especially carpentry
* Current Construction Supervisor's License preferred
* Ability to prioritize and work within established deadlines
* Knowledge of building construction and building code
* Good organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Basic math and computer skills and the ability to read blueprints
* Detail oriented
* Knowledge of proper use of power tools
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, and to serving the needs of a diverse community
* Ability to read and write and take oral and written instructions
* Basic computer skills including Outlook required
* Valid Driver's License
* Ability to pay close attention to detail
* Ability to occasionally work off hours/overtime/weekends to accommodate maintenance needs and align work with student absences from campus
Physical Demands
* Knowledge of and ability to safely use power tools, ladders, and staging
* Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work
* Ability to frequently climb and balance on ladders, scaffolding and roofs
* Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
* Ability to frequently reach, stand, walk, pull and grasp
* Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
* Ability to hear other people talking or moving and work as part of a team
* Ability to frequently:
* climb ladders, stairs, ramps, poles
* stoop, crouch and kneel
* work in awkward positions
* reach, feel and grasp objects
* sustain substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers
* walk from one work site to the next
* stand for sustained periods of time
* receive and communicate information with others to safely and effectively perform functions of job
* Ability to occasionally lift, move and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
* Ability to rarely lift material up to 150 lb. with help of co-workers
* Close visual acuity to view a computer terminal, inspect small parts, operate machines and motor vehicles and make general observations of facilities or structures
Working Conditions
* Worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, including heat and humidity in the summer and cold in the winter
