Reports to:
Food Service Supervisor/Head Cook
Perform various tasks related to preparing and serving school meals, including collecting and counting money, cleaning cooking areas, and assisting the Head Cook as needed.

Essential Functions- Serve as a role model for students in citizenship and responsible behavior.
- Instill ethical principles and democratic values in students.
- Maintain freedom from alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substances in the workplace.
- Ensure safety of students.
- Collect and process cafeteria lunch and milk payments.
- Prepare change before lunchroom opens.
- Restock milk and fill condiments as needed.
- Ensure paperwork is in cash bags.
- Complete daily work sheets/til papers documenting collected money.
- Prepare the money register for the lunch line each day.
- Determine and collect correct amount for each meal or item.
- Clear, lock, and date the money register tapes each school day.
- Communicate with the public using tact and diplomacy.
- Maintain confidentiality for sensitive information such as free and reduced lunch students.
- Interact positively with staff, students, and parents.
- Attend required meetings and in‑services.
- Count money in the cash drawer and prepare it for the next day.
- Ensure ample supply of napkins, silverware, straws, and condiments during serving.
- Help restock a‑la‑carte items and assist with general cleanup as time permits.
- Assist in cleaning cooking and serving areas.
- Complete extra time on the New Records System.
- Respond to routine questions and requests appropriately.
- Perform duties assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Less than one year of related experience.
- Superintendent and/or Board of Education may consider alternative qualifications.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Effective teamwork skills.
- Clear oral and written communication.
- Active listening skills.
- Organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, warnings, and labels.
- Computer register operation.
- Basic math and bookkeeping skills.

- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.

- Occasional overtime work may be requested and expected.
