Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Interventional Radiology Nurse Practitioner (IRNP) works in collaboration with the Interventional Radiologists to provide comprehensive care for patients. The IRNP is able to perform diagnostic exams without a radiologist present. The IRNP is responsible for the following tasks: pre‑assesment, intervention, and evaluation; completing history and physical exams, ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting test results and exam images, performing radiological procedures under imaging guidance with or without a radiologist present, performing fluoroscopic exams, providing oral and written communication with referring physicians and other clinical staff, developing and implementing patient treatment plans all under the guidelines set forth in the policies and procedures and Bylaws of South Texas Health System (STHS).

As a clinical leader for the Interventional Radiology program, the IRNP is involved in process improvement projects and is an educational resource for patients, families, and staff. Potentially, the IRNP will play a vital role in the community outreach programs for disseminating information about new and advanced radiological technologies that are available for service.

Qualifications
  • The job requires at least 12 months of clinical experience and expertise as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • The IRNP should be a role model nursing professional through conduct, communication, leadership, ethical decision making, and problem solving skills. The IRNP will maintain current BLS, ACLS, and PALS training.
  • Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training, and immediate reporting of suspected compliance issues to the Compliance Officer.
  • Education / Licensure
  • Must have and maintain current BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Certifications must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA for Healthcare Provider’s Program.
  • Must achieve a Doctoral Degree or Master’s in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Nurse Practitioner, or Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • A current license from the Texas Board of Nursing to practice as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority.
  • Preferred with National accreditation certification in the area of specialty.
  • No physical and/or mental problem preventing the candidate from exercising the granted privileges.
  • An agreement with physicians currently appointed to the medical staff of the hospital to supervise the IRNP’s practice in the hospital.
