The Controls Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design and development, implementation, and optimization of control systems and automation processes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AB Compact Logix and Control Logix systems, programming, as well as a strong background in managing automation projects from concept to completion. Responsible for maintenance and support of Controls Systems and able to troubleshoot Control Systems to support Operations during unplanned downtime events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership: Lead automation projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and meet performance requirements.
- System Design: Develop and implement control system architecture using AB Compact Logix and Control Logix platforms, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
- Technical Expertise: Provide expert guidance on best practices for automation, controls, and system integration.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to control systems and automation processes, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and quality assurance, to align automation strategies with business goals.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for control systems, including design specifications, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate existing automation processes and technologies, recommending improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
- Prefer 3+ years of experience with controls and automation, with a strong focus on AB Compact Logix and Control Logix systems.
- Proven experience in leading automation projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial communication protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must have experience with AC/DC motors and controllers, Control Circuits, Computers, VFD's and MCC's.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering documents.
- Must have the ability to install and maintain process instrumentation including sensors, transmitters, controllers and final control elements for measurement and control of temperature, pressure, level and flow.
- Professional certifications related to automation and control systems are a plus.
