Dr. Maria‑Elena De Trinidad Young in UC Merced's Public Health Department seeks a postdoctoral scholar to collaborate on quantitative and qualitative research regarding the population health impacts of immigration policies and enforcement. The postdoc will work closely with researchers and students on two projects: (1) Policies Influencing Rural Latino Health (PIRLH), a multi‑level study of the impact of immigration policy on mental health and health‑care access of Latino adults in rural California and Arizona;
the postdoc will supervise community‑engaged data dissemination, conduct survey data analysis, lead and contribute to manuscripts, and may assist with supplemental qualitative data collection; (2) an ongoing survey study on the social, economic, and health costs of mass deportation in California, where the postdoc will support a qualitative interview team, supervise research assistants, attend team meetings, present at conferences, and communicate with the study advisory board.
qualifications
- Ph.D. in Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Community Health Sciences, Health/Public Policy, or related social, behavioral, or population science field.
- Interest in health equity and rural health research.
- Strong methodological and data analysis skills (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods).
- Highly self‑motivated individuals who can conduct independent and collaborative scientific research.
- Willingness to mentor and assist undergraduate research assistants.
- Knowledge of immigrant health.
- Knowledge of immigration laws and policies.
- Strong quantitative data analysis skills.
- Interest in qualitative research methods.
