Arrowmark is seeking a VP Finance / Controller to join our growing construction company. The VP Finance / Controller plans, directs, and facilitates the accounting and financial operations of the company, including accounting principles, processes, procedures, strategic financial planning, profitability improvement initiatives, and operational financial reporting. This role works collaboratively with executives, department heads, and personnel to drive financial success and operational performance across the organization.
KeyDuties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing responsibilities, and a variety of reconciliations.
- Responsible for month-end and year-end closing and producing monthly financial statements.
- Maintain fixed asset register, depreciation, prepayment, and accrual schedules and other month-end/year-end schedules.
- Assist in the preparation of documentation for financial statements, audits and tax filings.
- Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and operational performance reporting to executive leadership.
- Work closely with the HR Department to ensure the accuracy of a weekly payroll cycle. Provides guidance, when necessary, conducts checks and balances, other accounting activities as required.
- Develop scalable accounting systems, financial controls, and operational reporting processes capable of supporting the Company's growth objectives and evolving operational complexity; maintain documented accounting policies and procedures and implement systems of internal control over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Develop and implement operational and financial performance metrics to measure profitability, efficiency, project execution, and overall company performance.
- Work with the HR Department to provide the support and information needed for audits including 401k, Worker's Compensation, General Liability Insurance, 5500 and more.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Coordinate the long-range financial planning of the Company, assess the financial requirements implicit in those plans, and develop strategies to satisfy capital and liquidity needs.
- Develop and implement financial strategies designed to improve profitability, cash flow, operational efficiency, and return on invested capital.
- Partner with executive leadership to provide financial analysis and strategic insight regarding pricing, backlog management, equipment utilization, labor productivity, and business performance.
- Lead the development and enhancement of job profitability reporting, work-in-progress (WIP) analysis, and margin-at-completion (MAC) forecasting processes.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) including gross margin fade/gain, labor productivity, equipment recovery, overhead absorption, cash conversion cycle, and days sales outstanding (DSO).
- Assist executive leadership with banking relationships, lender reporting, surety relationships, and capital structure planning.
- Develop cash flow forecasting models and liquidity management processes to support operational planning and strategic decision making.
- Evaluate operational and financial risks and recommend strategies to improve internal controls, project execution visibility, and financial accountability.
- Support acquisition integration efforts, ERP implementations, and process improvement initiatives across the organization.
- Collaborate with operations leadership to improve estimating accuracy, change order capture, billing efficiency, and project closeout performance.
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and interpersonal skills with the ability to take initiative and delegate effectively.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, and attention to detail and accuracy.

- Proven ability to drive accountability, improve processes, and influence operational decision-making through financial leadership.
- Hands-on leader capable of operating both strategically and tactically in a growing organization.
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience within the construction industry required.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
