Pinto Valley is an open‑pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe‑Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Environmental Specialist supports environmental compliance programs at Pinto Valley Mine, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and permit conditions across air quality, water management, waste, hazardous materials, and wildlife programs. This role provides technical expertise, guidance, and oversight to environmental staff and supports site operations in maintaining compliance.

The position works closely with operations, leadership, corporate teams, and regulatory agencies to manage environmental monitoring, reporting, and permitting activities while supporting continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Environmental Compliance & Reporting: Support air, water, waste, and environmental programs; prepare and review regulatory reports including Annual Emissions Inventory, TRI FORM R, SMRF, DMR, APP, and AZPDES reports.
  • Permitting & Regulations: Support permitting activities, including air permit modifications, and maintain compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Audits & Issue Resolution: Conduct audits and inspections, identify compliance risks, and work with operations to implement corrective actions.
  • Data & Systems Management: Manage environmental data, analyze trends, and support reporting using environmental systems and databases.
  • Team Support: Provide guidance to Environmental Specialists and serve as acting Environmental Superintendent as needed.
