Registered Nurse – Pre‑Op / Post‑Op / PACU – PRN – Bronson Battle Creek Hospital

Under general supervision and in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines established within the organization, the registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients through the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge, by utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, diagnosis, implementation, evaluation), coordinating care provided by other professionals, delegating tasks within scope, and providing appropriate physical care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive patient assessment, collect data pertinent to the patient's health or situation, and analyze assessment data to identify patient needs.
  • Use assessment data to identify patient problems and document expected outcomes and plan of care, incorporating patient and family input.
  • Develop individualized interventions and coordinate discharge planning when goals are not met.
  • Implement the plan of care, administer prescribed medication and treatments, and utilize evidence‑based interventions specific to the patient plan.
  • Maintain patient comfort and safety, initiate patient education, and manage the care plan by organizing and delegating interventions.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of interventions and document patient response toward expected outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and use results to initiate changes in nursing practice.
  • Engage in continuing education and maintain professional competency records.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and provide compassionate, culturally sensitive patient care.
  • Integrate ethical principles, maintain patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and act as a patient advocate.
  • Use research findings to improve patient health and practice environment, and participate in relevant research activities.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact in planning and delivering nursing services, including task delegation and patient education.
  • Provide leadership by participating in nursing councils, committees, and staff meetings; maintain a healthy work environment.
Responsibilities related to the Scrub RN
  • Interpret procedure cards and assess case carts for supplies before procedures, arranging for missing equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of operative procedures and anticipate physician needs.
  • Monitor patient condition changes during procedures and update case information accordingly.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment, discourage improper handling, and maintain awareness of operative needs.
  • Act as the specialist and resource for circulators unfamiliar with positioning devices or specialized equipment.
  • Perform scrub duties in multiple services, including neuro and orthopedics, and perform spinal fusions as required.
  • Handle after‑hour calls on a rotational basis.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required;
    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the State of Michigan; must obtain a BSN within 8 years of hire.
  • BLS certification required upon completion of core orientation.
  • Critical care or ALS certification required for some RNs; unit‑specific RNs in Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum need Automated Fetal Monitoring certification (PQF or NCC) within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring.
  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and analyzing data from various computer systems and equipment to inform plans of action.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to work with high mental/visual fatigue, performing repetitive or detailed tasks and operating personal computers for 40–70% of the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier tasks as required.
  • Ability to perform scrub duties in multiple services, e.g., neuro and orthopedics.
Shift Details

Variable shift, Part‑time (scheduled 10 hours weekly).
