Role Overview
Are you a dedicated Registered Nurse who wishes to make a difference for children and families? The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) is recruiting a full‑time Head Nurse for the second shift at a Hospital in Middletown, CT. Incumbents must hold a current Connecticut RN license or a Multistate/Compact RN license.
Position Details- PCN 114011, Acadia Unit, Middletown, CT
- Full‑time, 40 hours per week
- Second (2nd) shift: 2:45 pm – 11:15 pm
- Week 1 days off:
Saturday, Sunday, Thursday - Week 2 days off:
Wednesday
Working Lead
- Lead the planning of care and implementation of the nursing process
- Plan unit workflow and determine priorities
- Schedule, assign, oversee and review work
- Make recommendations for personnel actions such as selection, discipline and performance
- Conduct or assist in performance evaluations
- Lead professional and paraprofessional nursing staff in provision of patient/individual care
- Maintain and promote nursing standards
- Ensure controlled drugs are stored, administered and ordered properly
- Identify staff development needs and provide training and assistance
- Instruct staff regarding policies and procedures
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to promote and ensure continuity of patient/individual care programs
- Respond to emergencies
- Make recommendations on policies and standards
- Prepare reports or correspondence
- Serve as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) when required
- Perform related duties as required
Direct Care
- Independently develop, implement and evaluate nursing and/or health‑care plans
- Provide nursing consultation in the assigned specialty program
- Conduct nursing assessments
- Provide admission and discharge nursing assessments including plans for continuing care
- Maintain records and make reports
- Provide nursing services to comply with intermediate care facility regulations and JCAHO standards
- Maintain records of stored and secured medications
- Independently manage and provide direct care to patients/individuals
- Participate in individual, group or family therapy
- Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team in assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of patient/individual treatment plans
- Manage an assigned caseload of other appropriate clinical activities
- Provide clinical direction and/or training to staff in individual, group and family service delivery programs
- May participate in home visits and crisis intervention
- May provide in‑service training to nursing and paraprofessional staff regarding signs and symptoms of illness, dysfunction, injury and prevention
- May conduct patient/individual‑centered conferences with nursing personnel; may consult with and make recommendations to physicians concerning health needs
- May prepare reports or correspondence
- Serve as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) when required
- Perform related duties as required
School Nurse
- Independently provide counseling and health education services to students and staff
- Serve as a member of a crisis intervention team
- Provide assessment of medical problems
- Determine need for physician or medical care
- Perform basic evaluative procedures and tests
- Perform primary first aid
- Ensure controlled drugs are stored properly
- Make referrals and follow up on health needs
- Provide counseling on health‑related issues
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Write reports
- May administer medication
- May administer routine tests or exams
- Perform related duties as required
- Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse
- A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the general experience
- Must possess and retain a Connecticut RN license or a Multistate/Compact RN license
- May be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in American Sign Language for certain designated positions
- May be required to travel
Incumbents may be subject to a thorough background investigation before permanent appointment.
Working Conditions- May be required to lift and restrain individuals
- May be exposed to communicable/infectious diseases and risk of injury from assaultive or abusive individuals
- May be exposed to disagreeable conditions
