Registered Nurse RN- PCU

Summary

This position performs a variety of integrated functions, intuitively, using the nursing process while applying a broad nursing knowledge in a caring, concerned manner.

• Assess patient for physical, emotional, psych/social and family support.
• Organize and coordinate all aspects of patient care according to the patient’s real and/or perceived needs.
• Evaluate patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient’s plan of care or clinical path.
• Consult and collaborate with members of the health care team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals.
• Demonstrate proficiency (according to hospital and unit policy and procedure) in nursing skills to carry out the patient’s plan of care.
• Communicate interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort.
• Educate patients and families.
• Provide teaching, support and coordination of health care plans for patient and family through the acute phase of illness, as needed.
• Promote clinical knowledge development including critical thinking skills and improve strategies for comparing clinical judgment through research and continuing education.
• In the performance of the regular job duties, it is appropriate for this job code to have access to the medication room and supply room for the purpose of stocking.

Associate degree. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

• Completion of orientation process as directed by the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurse manager and critical care educator.
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Microsoft Windows competency required. Employees may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by My Michigan Health.
• PCCN certification preferred.

• Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes.
• Must be able to move freely around the facility with or without an assisted device and perform the job functions as described.
• Vision and hearing are necessary, with or without assistance.
• Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods; may need frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; must follow blood borne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance and stay awake.
• Dexterity required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling; may require frequent repetitive movements.
• Physical demands:
  Medium. Occasionally (0‑33 % of workday) lift or carry 21‑50 lbs, frequently (34‑66 %) 20 lbs, and continuously (67‑100 %) 10 lbs.
