Summary

The Lead Machine Operator (2nd shift) works as a hands on team member operating a variety of equipment while also overseeing processes and co-workers to ensure safety, quality and production objectives are consistently met. This role delegates work and supports coworkers in a manner which reflects company values and consistent attention to safety and a healthy environment. This role has primary responsibility for setting up the next shift and updating the next Group Leader.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participates, oversees and assists others in the startup, operation, clean up and shut down of a variety of equipment that may include the Ross, Tower, 60, ITX, powder coater, KK laminator and our Thermoplastic UD line.
  • Assigns tasks to other crew members to ensure timely completion of production runs.
  • Using ERP system as needed verifies settings and correct input materials are being utilized to produce material within specification with a minimal number of adjustments during run.
  • Operates hoist, fork truck, pallet jack and maintains daily inspections.
  • Set ups and monitors materials during runs.
  • Stages material through barcoding and maintains accurate inventories.
  • Mixes and tests chemicals based on a formula / recipe for each product type.
  • Follows precise test procedures as outlined in the Barrday control documents.
  • Monitors quality and raises NCR’s for non-conforming materials and works with Quality / Engineering to identify and implement resolutions.
  • Interacts regularly with supervisor and others to provide status updates, input for planning and feedback or concerns regarding safety, quality, productivity and employee performance.
  • Completes and enters documentation in ERP system during and at end of production runs.
  • Maintains safe, orderly work area ensuring 5S is practiced and sustained in daily activities.
  • Ensures all equipment and work areas are clean and well maintained.
  • Packages and labels materials per documentation requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned including cross training within department and other areas of plant.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • 2+ years machine operator experience in a manufacturing production environment.
  • Dependable, effective team player able to delegate to and motivate others.
  • Excellent attention to detail, quality and safety.
  • Competent math skills including accuracy in basic functions such as multiplication and division and in working with conversion factors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to multitask and identify and solve problems within constrained timelines.
  • Moving, bending, pushing and lifting capability up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials.
  • Must commit to the assigned work schedule and work overtime as required.
  • Competent and comfortable using computers and ERP system to input and access data.
  • Must adhere to safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment.
Working Conditions
  • Manufacturing setting with continuous periods of standing and walking required.
  • Considerable lifting and loading (with assistance of appropriate tools and machines).
  • Exposure to noise and chemical products in conditions where all appropriate protective equipment is available.
