Systems Engineer, Cloud Computing
Role Overview
At Arlo, we are passionate about building innovative and reliable solutions that protect what matters most to our customers. As part of our Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE), you will own the program and a Systems Engineering team focused on cloud standards, shared tooling, and common libraries—making it easier for every team to build and ship reliably.
Responsibilities Cloud Center of Excellence- Define and evolve cloud engineering standards, architectural patterns, and operational baselines.
- Drive Fin Ops practices: cost monitoring, rightsizing, reserved capacity planning, and budget forecasting.
- Build and maintain a best‑practice knowledge base: design patterns, IaC standards, common cloud service libraries, and observability playbooks.
- Evaluate emerging tools and technologies (AI infrastructure, edge compute, etc.) and translate findings into adoption roadmaps.
- Run office hours, workshops, and documentation programs to upskill engineers on cloud‑native design—lowering the barrier to doing things the right way.
- Partner with the SRE organization on post‑mortem learnings; translate findings into updated standards and training.
- Manage and grow a team of Dev Ops and Systems Engineers; own hiring, performance, and career development.
- Own the development, versioning, and lifecycle of common libraries shared across cloud services.
- Deliver shared platform tooling and internal developer platform capabilities; partner with the Engineering Tools team on CI/CD integration.
- Drive adoption of the Arlo Cloud Platform—cell‑based, AZ‑bounded architecture and semver’d operational baselines—through enablement, not mandates.
- Collaborate with Security and Compliance to embed governance into platform delivery.
- Serve as the senior technical voice on cloud standards; build trusted relationships with engineering leads across all teams.
- Represent the team to executive stakeholders; influence investment decisions with data‑driven insights.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software or cloud/platform engineering experience, with 3+ years in engineering management.
- Deep expertise in AWS (EKS, Dynamo
DB, RDS, IAM, Cost Explorer) and IaC tooling (Terraform, CDK, or equivalent). - Experience designing and maintaining shared libraries or platform SDKs consumed by multiple teams.
- Demonstrated ability to define and enforce engineering standards across a large, multi‑team organization.
- Fin Ops mindset: experience managing and optimizing cloud costs at scale.
- Strong communicator—able to translate technical topics for both engineers and executives.
- Experience building an internal developer platform (IDP) or cell‑based / multi‑region architecture.
- Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure (Databricks, Sage Maker, Bedrock).
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Dev Ops Engineer) or Fin Ops Foundation (FOCP).
- Background in consumer IoT, connected devices, or real‑time streaming platforms.
- 90days:
Cloud standards and library gaps audited; CCoE roadmap published; working relationships established with engineering leads, SRE, and Engineering Tools teams. - 6months:
Standards and updated libraries adopted across 3+ teams;
Fin Ops savings realized; training program underway. - 12months: CCoE is the go‑to for cloud decisions at Arlo; common libraries are versioned and org‑wide; platform tooling measurably reduces time‑to‑production.
- Own the cloud engineering culture across a 400‑person organization with global impact.
- Work on a platform processing billions of events per day for millions of customers.
- Competitive compensation, equity, and a genuine commitment to your growth.
