Overview
Job Captain – Residential & Multifamily Architecture
We are seeking a Job Captain to join our architectural team, focused on California multifamily residential projects. This is a full-time, in-office position in San Francisco and a developmental role on the path to Project Architect, ideal for someone who wants to strengthen technical skills, work closely with architects, engineers, and consultants, and participate in projects from design through permitting and construction while taking ownership of project delivery.

Housable is an architectural firm and a housing development platform for real estate owners, backed by early VC investors behind Uber, Postmates, and Coinbase. We partner with leading owners and operators to design, permit, and build infill housing across California. With over 1,000 units completed or in progress, we are expanding our team to accelerate our development pipeline.
Responsibilities- Produce permit and construction document sets for multifamily residential projects.
- Coordinate with structural, civil, MEP, and energy consultants to support efficient, buildable solutions.
- Research and apply California codes including CBC, CRC, and zoning requirements, with an understanding of applicability and exceptions.
- Communicate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction and respond to plan check comments and jurisdictional requirements.
- Support construction-phase efforts including RFIs, submittals, and drawing clarifications.
- Maintain organized Revit models, drawing sets, and internal documentation standards.
- Learn, follow, and support established project workflows, schedules, and coordination processes.
- Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
- 2–5 years of experience in an architectural office (residential or multifamily experience is preferred).
- Proficiency in Revit and interest in developing strong technical skills.
- Foundational understanding of building systems and engineering disciplines.
- Curiosity about how engineering decisions impact cost, constructability, and project scope.
- Knowledge of California and local building codes and regulations.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.
- Clear communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a studio environment.
- Work on a fast-paced portfolio of projects moving from concept through construction.
- Develop a deeper understanding of engineering coordination and constructability.
- Gain hands-on experience with California jurisdictions across major markets.
- Take on increasing responsibility for technical coordination and consultant management.
- Receive mentorship from architects with a clear trajectory toward Project Architect.
- Receive support toward licensure, including mentorship, experience tracking, and flexibility for exam preparation.
