A Transportation Engineer I is responsible for assisting the Project Manager in the design development of transportation projects on local roadways and state highways. This includes preparing design concepts and reports, delivering plans, specifications, estimates (PS&E) construction documents, and supporting construction. The position entails coordination with team members, interaction with clients, agency staff, and other consultants under the direction of the Project Manager, understanding and compliance with project scopes, budgets, and schedules, and providing training for junior staff.
SpecificExperience
The candidate must have experience in preparing preliminary design reports, design plans, specifications, quantities, and estimates using Caltrans and local agency standards. Familiarity with transportation design standards such as the Caltrans Highway Design Manual (HDM), Project Development Procedures Manual (PDPM), CT Standard Plans, CA Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CAMUTCD), the AASHTO Greenbook, and other guidance standards is required. Proficiency in preparing plan sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D is expected.

The engineer should communicate professionally with coworkers and clients, work in the office a minimum of three days per week to facilitate teamwork, training, and mentorship, and adhere to quality control procedures.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; current California registration as a licensed Professional Engineer; minimum three years of qualifying transportation design engineering with experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Caltrans standards, and developing technical skills in delivering plans, specifications, and estimates.
