Position OverviewThe Substitute Teacher supports the mission of the Catholic school by providing quality instruction and maintaining a positive, faith-filled learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute is responsible for continuing the learning process, upholding the values of the Catholic faith, and fostering respect, responsibility, and community among students.
Key Responsibilities- Implement the lesson plans and instructional activities prepared by the classroom teacher.
- Support and model the Catholic identity and mission of the school in all interactions.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and faith-centered classroom environment that encourages learning and personal growth.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and Gospel values.
- Supervise students responsibly in the classroom, hallways, playground, lunchroom, or other assigned areas.
- Communicate effectively with the school office and administration regarding any concerns or incidents.
- Leave a detailed report of the day’s activities, progress, and any issues for the returning teacher.
- Participate in school routines such as morning prayer, liturgies, or other faith-based activities as appropriate.
- Work Environment: Catholic elementary and/or middle school setting.
- Engages with students, faculty, staff, and administration in a supportive and collaborative community.
- May include supervision during recess, lunch, or school-wide faith and community activities.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (education or related field desirable).
- Current substitute teaching license or appropriate state certification
- Commitment to the mission and philosophy of Catholic education.
- Prior classroom experience preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, flexibility, and respect for students and staff.
