Position

Summary

This is a multi‑faced role responsible for correctly, safely and efficiently handling both bulk receiving and palletized receiving, as required to cover absences and open positions. It includes leading the material receiving area, operating a yard spotter safely, screening trucks under the United Petfood SOPs for bulk receiving, palletized receiving, and tanker unloading, and providing leadership and support for FEFO practices.

When not covering open positions, the utility works as an expediter, ensuring production needs are met and minimizing truck dwell time at United Petfood Mishawaka.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Cover for absences in bulk receiving and palletized receiving, fulfilling those roles according to the United Petfood SOPs, procedures, and best practices.
  • Train new bulk receivers and new palletized receivers in United Petfood SOPs, procedures, and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively via phone calls, emails, and text messages.
  • Communicate with other employees and truck drivers in a professional manner.
  • When not filling for absences or in a training role, function as an expediter.
  • Look for ways to increase the effectiveness of the bulk and palletized receivers’ efforts.
  • Ensure that production has the material they need.
  • Stage materials and trailers for the next shift.
  • Seek ways to minimize the amount of time trucks spend on site at United Petfood Mishawaka.
  • Take on cleaning or stock rotation tasks.
  • Assume a leadership role in the raw material area for the bulk, setting the standard in the receiving areas for safety, food safety, and best work practices.
  • Hold others accountable for following all company Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Follow the master sanitation schedule for the raw material warehouses.
  • Participate in the year‑end physical inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Workplace Safety
  • Complete safety system documentation and verify compliance with program standards; report deviations to Supervisor.
  • Participate in mandatory safety trainings and adhere to all safety policies.
  • Report all safety issues, near misses, and injuries.
Quality & Food Safety
  • Complete quality & food safety system documentation and verify compliance with program standards; report deviations to Supervisor.
  • Participate in mandatory food safety and quality training program requirements.
  • Preserve the integrity of the BRC system through adherence to policies and procedures; take actions necessary to resolve food safety and quality system deficiencies.
  • Report food safety and quality system failures and take actions necessary to preserve the BRC system.
Position Requirements
  • Demonstrate skill operating a yard spotter, including hooking and unhooking procedures with storage box trailers.
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Be a self‑starter able to work independently.
  • Prepare appropriate documentation as required by the position.
  • Hold a valid Driver’s License with no recorded accidents within the past three years.
  • Tolerate both hot and cold environments.
  • Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Have good communication skills; show initiative in accepting responsibility and functioning with minimal supervision.
  • Be highly motivated, able to work individually or as part of a team.
