Maintenance Mechanic 2
Department: Department of Corrections
Location: Monroe Correctional Complex, Monroe, WA
About the PositionThe Maintenance Mechanic 2 is responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing and supervising work crews in the maintenance, repair and fabrication of locks, mechanical, plumbing, steam, wastewater operation and control systems and parts at the Monroe Correctional Complex.
Key Responsibilities- Perform installation, maintenance, repair and fabrication of locks, doors, fences, mechanical equipment, plumbing and sewer systems.
- Assess, prioritize and perform journey‑level work to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and modify doors, gates, locks and related systems.
- Utilize knowledge of plumbing, electrical, machinist work, welding, carpentry, painting, and HVAC.
- Review facility structure, finishes and conditions to determine repair/maintenance needs.
- Maintain shop administration: schedule resources, prepare cost estimates, create purchase requests, order materials, keep records and respond to work orders.
- Lead facility mechanical and plumbing projects under CMPS, layout and schedule work, coordinate tasks between trades, prepare material, labor and cost estimates.
- Develop and conduct preventive maintenance program for assigned machinery and equipment.
- Use facility technical library, schematics, O&M’s and blueprints.
- Perform outdoor building preparation for painting, pressure washer cleaning, painting surfaces, curbs, hydrants, light pole bases and parking lot striping.
- Use incarcerated crew to clean bar screens, grinders, inspect lift stations and manage pumps and controls.
- Control weeds and pests, keep grounds clean, including mowing and operation of a weed trimmer.
- Ensure compliance with safety and security procedures.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Either:
- Four years of general experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work;
- Two years experience with a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanical trade;
- Two years experience in a related maintenance supervisory position in a corrections facility.
- Familiarity with plumbing design/layout, systems/hardware.
- Familiarity with building, mechanical codes, safety.
- Sound judgment, problem‑solving on maintenance and project issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, documents and specifications.
- Maintain reliable attendance.
- Complete a felony disclosure form and criminal background check.
- Complete orientation, training, and other mandatory requirements.
- Provide residential address and home telephone number.
- Be familiar with and comply with Department policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Submit to drug testing as per policy.
