Job Description We are currently looking for an experienced Construction Inspector to join our Infrastructure team in Ottawa. As a Construction Inspector, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and compliance of construction activities on infrastructure construction projects.
Job Responsibilities:
Engineering site inspection on municipal construction projects for quality control and adherence with applicable provincial standards, engineering design and technical specifications
Document construction site activities (keeping a detailed daily report log, taking photos, performing survey checks, and recording as-built conditions) andidentifyand monitor deficiencies
Track and prepareend-of-monthquantity reports for contractor progress payment
Provide problem resolution and field solutions with respect to unforeseen construction issues andparticipatein construction progress meetings
Arrange on-site geotechnical investigations and material testing (for concrete, granular materials, and asphalt) and coordinate with Engineering for specialist inspections
Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act on construction sites with authority to issue stop work orders; ensure proper Ministry and project procedures are followed to ensure public/pedestrian safety
Liaise with clients, regulatory inspectors, various utility companies, residents, and other stakeholders as required
Qualifications Experience in infrastructure construction, with direct experience in road and linear infrastructurerequired; 5+years experience preferred, but will consider candidates with at least 2 years of such experience
Effective communicatorpossessingdemonstrated skills in dealing with other staff, contractors, and the public, in matters arising from construction projects
Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
MTO Class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing and access to a personnel vehicle
Working knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) for Municipal projects
Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders including contractors and other site personnel
Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence
Assets:
Knowledge of use of a construction level and surveying is an asset
Demonstrated skills in the use of computer utilizing programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, etc.), Bluebeam and AutoCAD (asset)
RCSI designation an asset
Eligible for P.Eng. or CET designation is an asset
Experience working on City of Ottawa infrastructure projects an asset
