Position Overview
The Campus & Event Safety/Security Officer provides a multitude of services that ensures a safe and secure environment for the university community both on a day-to-day basis and during events throughout campus. The officer plays a key role in establishing and strengthening relationships with on‑campus and off‑campus stakeholders through exemplary customer service.
Duties- Conduct general security patrol on campus and at events and report emergencies to university, city, or state officials.
- Assist with Safe Walks, extra patrol requests, building lockouts, and on‑call notifications.
- Enforce university alcohol policies.
- Monitor access control, check credentials, check tickets, and enforce clear‑bag requirements.
- Use computer software and applications including word‑processing software, spreadsheets, email, and internet.
- Work in a team environment to accomplish shared goals.
- Follow documented policies and procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to work a non‑standard schedule to meet the needs of the department.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and comply with policy requirements for driving university‑owned vehicles.
- Knowledge of safety and security operations and best practices.
- One year of experience as a safety/security officer.
- Demonstrated competence with written and verbal communication.
- Must be able to:
- Move around and between venues throughout the workday.
- Carry, lift, or otherwise move items weighing up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Bend, stoop, shovel, and be comfortable working at significant heights.
- Traverse any part of campus including asphalt, sidewalks, grass, dirt, playgrounds, etc.
- Sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Work in inclement weather conditions.
$19.69 per hour or higher depending on experience.
