Position Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Construction Estimator to be based in our Decatur, IL or Cedar Rapids, IA office and requires travel.

Responsibilities
  • Estimate complex self-performed construction projects that make our nation’s structures stronger and last longer, including concrete repair, waterproofing, structural strengthening, post-tension repairs, etc.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating various statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, equipment costs, and applying to complete scope of work.
  • Define and quantify scope of work and prepare comprehensive conceptual, budgetary, and construction cost estimates for projects.
  • Review/research historical data and compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
  • Prepare project procurement (including design build) and buyouts to ensure the company has the necessary resources for project completion.
  • Develop detailed subcontractor scope packages, outlining specific work requirements, deliverables, and performance expectations for each trade involved in a construction project, ensuring clear communication and accurate cost estimation for each subcontractor bid.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management (preferred).
  • 3-9 years of construction estimating experience, ideally in a related industry involving construction projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team to estimate projects of moderate complexity up to $5

    Million.
  • Prior experience estimating up to 5 projects directly and preparing up to 5 estimates indirectly as a mentor.
  • Ability to evaluate, quantify, and capture specification requirements within the estimate.
  • Prior experience working with terms and conditions in construction contracts.
  • Strong understanding of the greater Florida construction market, including current market prices and clients such as engineers, architects, property managers, and owners.
  • Previous experience maintaining client relationships while performing light business development.
  • Demonstrated construction math and computer skills including Microsoft Excel and/or construction estimating software.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time.
