Job DescriptionThe Engineering Research Office (ERO), located in the Tickle College of Engineering (TCE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), invites applications for an exempt full‑time Research Coordinator. The ERO provides concierge service to enhance the quality and success of extramural research proposals. Reporting to the Research Assistant Director, the Research Coordinator will be a primary contact for faculty and support staff in the seven academic departments and six research centers comprising the TCE’s research enterprise.
ResponsibilitiesThe Research Coordinator will have an active role in implementing efforts to enhance the success of faculty members relative to external funding. Primary duties include:
- Providing technical assistance to faculty members relative to all aspects of proposal support, including analysis of the RFP/solicitation, proposal planning and budget development, facilitating internal/external collaborative arrangements, assisting with final submission to sponsor
- Serving as liaison with internal and external constituencies to facilitate collaborative research activities through exchanging information and clarifying procedures and requirements during the proposal stage
- Coordinating the strategic development of large proposals
- Participating in ongoing examinations of college research metrics and benchmarking data to facilitate strategic planning and decision‑making by college leadership
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Experience:
Eight (8) years of experience related to sponsored research or closely related experience to the position’s duties.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience interpreting and applying federal regulations relative to sponsored research.
Years of experience should be directly related to sponsored research, preferably within a university environment or in a corporate or non‑profit setting with extensive experience with state and federal funding agencies.
Experience with grant and contract policies of state, federal, private, and non‑profit funding agencies.
Demonstrated ability to work and/or lead within a team.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively and tactfully with personnel at all levels.
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; proficiency in MS Excel.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Superior critical analyses abilities; keen attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multi‑task.
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Working knowledge of myriad funding agency‑specific guidelines relative to sponsored research.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment‑based visa status.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in a related field
Experience:
Four (4) years of sponsored research experience.
Experience with in a university environment, nonprofit, national laboratory, or in a corporate setting with extensive experience with state and federal funding agencies.
Working knowledge of Uniform Guidance.
Sponsored research experience in an academic environment.
Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credential.
Work Location- Location:

- Anticipated hiring range: $85,000- $90,000
