Job PurposeThe role is responsible for setting up inhouse portfolio and fund management businesses and assisting clients in managing their investment across asset classes through Shariah compliant strategies. The overall objective of this role is to set up the investment management function to act as strategic advisor to our clients by formulating investment strategies and raising assets under management (AUMs). The role is responsible for setting up public funds covering both sukuks and equities, pitching investment advisory services to bank’s clients to get discretionary mandates and coordinating with internal stakeholders as well as external regulators for ensuring full compliance with rules and guidelines.
This role requires a seasoned investment professional with extensive experience in cross asset portfolio management, fund structuring, and regulatory compliance, strong client relationships, and a track record in building AUMs. The role will be involved in other key aspects of the Investment Banking unit’s activities including supporting the wealth management business, risk management, performance analysis reporting, and the continuous build-out of the team’s operating infrastructure.
& Responsibilities Business Development Strategy
- Set up public funds and develop investment strategies to attract AUMs
- Build relationships by providing sophisticated investment solutions tailored to the clients' needs in line with their risk/return objectives
- Manage specific investment mandates and communicating internally and externally on the changing risk/return characteristics of the asset class and securities held in the portfolio
- Review and recommend investment strategies for clients and identify criteria for evaluating and appointing third party investment managers
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging industry contacts and market knowledge.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing expert advice and guidance on Investment advisory transactions.
- Work on RFPs and EOIs for submission to prospective clients for the award of discretionary portfolio mandates
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends and opportunities
- Assist in areas including Investment Strategy, Risk management as well as Investment Operations
- Provide inputs on an ongoing basis with regards to potential opportunities or developing risks in the markets based on market research and trends
- Assist in developing internal presentations for Committee meetings, investment proposals, or other purposes as needed
- Manage the end-to-end process of setting up public funds including regulatory approvals and licenses, appointment of key service providers and marketing to core investors
- Coordinate with legal, compliance, and other internal and external teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve business objectives and drive growth
- Monitor industry developments and competitive landscape to formulate business strategy
- Achieve revenue and profitability targets for the IB unit
- Manage budgets and financial performance, ensuring efficient use of resources
- Position the bank as a top Islamic Investment Management Solutions provider in Oman and the GCC region
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, preferably in Finance/Economics/Business
- Master’s Degree is preferable
- CFA, CAIA or FRM
- Minimum 10 years work experience in banking/financial institutions with at least 5 years' experience in in asset management or investment advisory
- Deep expertise in domestic and regional financial markets, having strong relationships with Financial Institutions, NBFIs, takaful/insurance, pension funds, Corporates and regulatory bodies
- Well-versed with local and international capital market standards, rules & regulations with track record of success in structuring funds and managing portfolios
- Proven track record of successful transaction execution and client relationship management
- Proven track record of driving revenue and AUMs growth
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and pivot efficiently
- Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Competent with MS Office and comfortable with using platforms such as Bloomberg/Reuters
