The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of Mechanical Craftsman experience. A technical background as a Mechanical Scheduler (Planner) developing clear work instructions, reliable cost estimates, and understanding of plant systems is highly preferred.

This position will require extensive travel to various facility locations when performing assigned tasks.

Job Summary

Prepares, schedules and monitors detailed planning and cost estimating of Nuclear, Fossil, Hydro and CT planned and emergency outages.

  • Produces detailed written work instructions, coordinates schedule and cost estimates to ensure successful execution of PSS repairs for the plants. Ensures that details of work scopes are coordinated and in compliance with the outage schedule and milestones.
  • Uses knowledge of plant systems, components and procedures to ensure quality instructions. Ensures proper work sequencing and critical path logic. Coordinates with system and design engineers in operations, maintenance, modification or other supporting organizations on the status of work being performed. Interfaces with senior plant management on emergency repairs to TVA’s generating assets. Processes logic changes requests after analyzing impacts on the schedule and resource allocation.

    Operates in a teamwork environment to resolve schedule constraints.
  • Plans work scope with written instructions and providing detailed cost estimates and schedules to meet customer requirements. Monitors and communicates job status and forecast, including cost and schedule using TVA and PSS business systems.
  • Provides technical expertise on power generating and industrial related equipment to support customer needs. Performs pre-outage and capital project planning in order to close performance gaps and to meet site and TVA objectives.
  • Attends COO outage readiness reviews for future planned outages and subsequently coordinating the planning and estimations for these outages.
Supervision Received

Independently performs assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical or business alignment guidance on unusual or complex problems.

Skills and Proficiencies

Knowledge of scheduling techniques (CPM), scheduling software, and maintenance/work management systems. Knowledge of PC software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Dbase) and resource, cost and schedule integration techniques. Knowledge of applicable nuclear, fossil, hydro, or CT plant systems and operating and maintenance procedures, policies, drawings, requirements, and technical specifications. Ability to accurately determine and translate customer component repair/rebuild requirements. Effective interpersonal skills along with strong verbal and written communications.

Minimum Qualifications

A two-year technical degree in engineering or a related field of study; or equivalent education, training & experience.

Five or more years of experience in power plant generation maintenance and/or in large equipment rebuild industry. Understanding and proficiency producing schedules.

Must be able to obtain and maintain S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable.

Must be able to assume “on-call” rotational assignments which may include 24 hours‑a‑day, 7 days‑a‑week availability. Must be able to work required overtime during peak periods.

Must be able to travel to nuclear, fossil, hydro or CT facility locations as required when performing assigned tasks.
