We are seeking a Process Safety Engineer to support the multiyear construction, startup activities and ongoing plant operations for a world‑class life sciences manufacturing facility in Muskegon, Michigan. This on‑site role reports to the EHS Manager and is part of the Resins and Technology Team.
What You Will Do- Ensure the site will be ready & compliant with OSHA Process Safety Management regulations and implement/maintain appropriate Cytiva PSM documentation & tools such as site PSM Program policies, Haz Ops, and Process Safety Information, including the identification of covered equipment.
- Ensure the site’s continued execution of its Environmental Management System to obtain ISO 14001 certification in the future.
- Coach and support multiple framework element owners/co‑owners to guarantee proper deployment of the Danaher & Cytiva EHS framework programs at the site.
- Apply Danaher Business System continuous improvement tools and processes for EHS improvement and risk mitigation opportunities, partnering with the broader Cytiva Global EHS team for best practice sharing and collaboration across sites.
- Manage EHS compliance activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, occupational safety and health, or related field required;
Master’s degree desirable. - 5+ years of EHS related experience with extensive OSHA PSM and EPA RMP management experience in a high‑hazard industry.
- Strong facilitation skills in Process Hazard Analysis using batch HAZOP or continuous process HAZOP; experience with PHA software, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), or What‑If PHA techniques.
- Ability to understand process chemistry and interface with R&D to define the operating envelope for a process.
- Working understanding of how to identify product families and bounding cases to manage PHAs efficiently.
- EHS Professional Certification (e.g., CIH, CSP) or Accredited Process Safety Engineer (iChemE).
- Proficiency in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
- Ability to travel – approximately 25 % travel, including short overseas trips and national trips.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 30 lb, walk moderate distances, traverse uneven ground, stand/sit for prolonged periods, manipulate several flights of stairs, and occasionally use ladders or stoop/kneel to investigate EHS concerns.
