Responsible for the total administration of the church’s funds, accounting records, and financial reports. The Finance Committee formulates and oversees the policies which the Financial Director administers and advises on procedures as deemed necessary. The person in this position must exercise confidentiality in all areas. Judgment must be used in day-to-day decisions and in deciding when authority must come from the Senior Minister, the Church Treasurer, and/or the Finance Committee.
PREFERREDREQUIREMENTS
- Experience with bookkeeping for a business or non-profit
- Experience with payroll
- Finance or Accounting degree, experience preferred
- Working knowledge of budgets
- Valid S.
C. driver’s license - Bondable
- Thorough knowledge of computerized double-entry bookkeeping and supporting functions
- Knowledge of ACS Realm program or similar accounting software
- Entering contributions, miscellaneous office deposits (rent checks, etc.), balancing to deposits, generating reports and statements
- Processing payroll for church staff and Day School, including tax filings
- Verifying documentation, processing accounts payable, and issuing checks
- Managing general ledger entries, balancing accounts, and generating reports
- Making weekly deposits
- Supervising counters and volunteers
- Reconciling checkbooks and bank accounts
- Administering pension and medical reimbursement plans
- Attending Church Council and Finance Committee meetings
- Preparing reports and analyses for the Finance Committee
- Entering pledges and managing annual budget requests
- Distributing contribution envelopes and annual reports
- Preparing for year-end closing and audits
- Managing sale of columbarium niches
- Maintaining staff personnel files and HR records
- Supporting stewardship campaigns
- Maintaining good relations with congregation, staff, and vendors
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Senior Minister/Church Administrator
