- Program, optimize, and troubleshoot CNC mill-turn and Swiss machining centers.
- Support Miyano multi‑tasking lathes and Tsugami Swiss‑type CNC machines.
- Develop efficient machining strategies for complex precision components.
- Create, prove out, and optimize CNC programs for production stability, quality, and repeatability.
- Support machine setups, first‑piece development, production launches, and process troubleshooting.
- Improve cycle times, tooling strategies, tool life, and machine utilization.
- Create and maintain setup sheets, tool lists, process notes, and standard work instructions.
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, offsets, chatter, surface finish, dimensional variation, and machine performance.
- Work with Quality to resolve dimensional issues, nonconformances, and process‑related concerns.
- Mentor setup technicians, machinists, and operators through hands‑on technical guidance.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Production, Quality, Engineering, and Product Management.
- Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and process optimization initiatives.
This role is ideal for someone who leads through technical skill, hands‑on execution, problem‑solving, and mentorship — not through formal supervisory authority.
Required Qualifications- Minimum of 5+ years of CNC programming experience in a precision machining environment.
- Advanced hands‑on experience with mill‑turn and Swiss‑style CNC machining.
- Strong experience with Miyano mill‑turn platforms.
- Strong experience with Tsugami Swiss machines.
- Strong knowledge of:
- G‑code programming
- Live tooling
- Sub‑spindles
- Y‑axis machining
- Multi‑axis machining
- Tool offsets
- Feeds and speeds
- Tooling selection
- Cycle‑time optimization
- Ability to independently program, set up, prove out, troubleshoot, and optimize complex CNC jobs.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, technical drawings, tight tolerances, and precision inspection requirements.
- Experience supporting high‑volume or repeat production machining.
- Ability to troubleshoot dimensional issues, tooling problems, surface finish concerns, chatter, tool wear, and process instability.
- Ability to create accurate setup documentation and process instructions.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally.
- Ability to mentor and support machinists and setup technicians without direct supervisory responsibility.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, firearms, medical device, or other high‑precision manufacturing environments.
- Experience in contract manufacturing or high‑mix production environments.
- Experience with lights‑out machining, automation, bar‑fed production, and unattended machining.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.
- Experience supporting first article inspections, new product launches, and process validation.
- Experience working with tooling vendors to test and improve tool performance.
- Knowledge of advanced cutting strategies and tool life management.
