Work Status: PRN | Requires a minimum commitment of two 12‑hour shifts every 6 weeks.
Shift Details: 12‑hour day or night shifts scheduled based on staffing needs.

Responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to all patients as directed by medical staff and in compliance with hospital policies. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the work and efforts of all personnel assigned to their area. Relates and communicates effectively with other shifts for continuity of care. Maintains satisfactory relationships and positive communication with other departments. Participates in all phases of education, maintenance of records and upgrading policy, procedures and skills.
EssentialFunctions
- Responsible for direct supervision of nursing activities.
- Interprets operating policies and procedures and reviews work performance.
- Maintains quality patient care; exhibits compliance with physician orders and hospital policies.
- Investigates and studies trends and developments in nursing to evaluate the adaptability of the needs in specific nursing areas.
- Gives direct patient care through applying expert technical skills.
- Assesses patient’s need through both direct and indirect interactions with the patient and /or family.
- Formulates, implements, and documents a plan of care in the electronic health record to meet each patient’s total health needs. Involves all members of the medical care team, the patient, and their family in the formulation and updates. Updates the plan of care when necessary.
- Plans, directs and evaluates the activities in coordination with medical care team.
- Is readily available to patients, family and physicians for consultation and assistance.
- Insures that electronic medical records of patients accurately reflect the patient’s condition, progress, education and treatment.
- Maintains close communication with members of the medical care team in all matters relating to patient care.
- Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences.
- Possesses knowledge of the equipment needed in certain situations and how the equipment functions.
- Administers medications (oral, intramuscular, intravenous, and/or subcutaneous) skillfully and correctly according to policy.
- Participates in orientation, in‑service training and hospital safety programs.
- Participates in all required certifications (i.e., CPR, ACLS, TNCC or ATCN, PALS and NRP).
- Communicates and enforces hospital policies and procedures to the medical care team, patients and visitors as needed.
- Supervises, educates, guides, motivates, consoles, corrects, and commends fellow team members.
- Utilizes all available resources efficiently.
- Orients new personnel.
- Promotes good public and intra‑hospital relations.
- Reviews all nursing responsibilities in the Incident Action Plan manual for Emergency and Code situations. Holds fellow nursing staff members responsible to know, understand, and practice their own role in the event of a code or an emergency.
- Has the ability to be resourceful and calm in an emergency.
- Treats all patients equally with respect and dignity; does not base the quality of care on the patient’s race, creed, color or social position.
- Has knowledge of universal precautions and infection control policies; implements, supports and enforces policies with self, patient, medical care team, visitors and fellow staff members.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calls for assistance from health care support personnel.
- Attends/participates in department meetings, in‑services, and/or seminars. Attends/participates in 100% of mandatory meetings. Completion of Care Learning on time.
- Education:
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ASN) and/or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree from an accredited school of nursing required.
- Must have an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Nebraska.
- Must possess an active Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
- The RN will be assessed periodically based upon observations on the job and also by written competency testing.
- On Call Requirements: 30 Minute Response Time
