Special Education Assistant

• Provides academic, behavioral, and/or emotional support for students during the day.
• Prepares instructional materials for students.
• Assists with any special area classes.
• Assists with the management of individual student and classroom behavior.
• Participates in and completes mandatory and elective professional development opportunities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to work with students with various learning profiles and varying support needs.
• Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations.
• Ability to display patience with students.
• Knowledge of student safety requirements and practices.
• Technology and computer skills.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Passion for working with children/students with disabilities.

Work is normally performed in a school/classroom environment but may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, talk, hear, operate a computer and handheld learning devices, reach with hands and arms, work indoors or outdoors, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. May also need to assist students with standing, sitting, organizational functions or other related general physical tasks.

Hourly Rate Range: $23.94 – $27.97 (FY26 rate). Refer to the Unit C Contract (Grade: ASA) for additional information about compensation and benefits.
