Therapeutic Recreation Director

ONORA - Senior Living in Ocean Township, New Jersey is seeking an energetic, compassionate and experienced Therapeutic Recreation Director.

Bring your enthusiasm and compassion to help others and we will provide you with a nurturing caring environment in which to work. Onora is a small 25 resident family style community designed for seniors who need some assistance with daily activities.

We provide living space, meals, housekeeping services, recreational/social activities and personal support to our residents. The only thing more beautiful than the surroundings of our 4 acre campus at Onora are the people with which you will work.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate meaningful, engaging and diversified recreation programs for independent, assisted living and memory care residents.
  • Arrange, schedule, and supervise activities; providing direct care if needed.
  • Develop preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the activity needs of each resident
  • Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing a comprehensive plan of care
  • Document assessments, evaluations, revisions, clinical notes, progress notes etc. in the patient’s medical records.
  • Implement Monthly calendar of activities
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Must have a Bachelors Degree
  • Must be a qualified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or an activities professional who is licensed by National Council for Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Must have 5 years’ experience in Long-Term Care activities coordination
  • Certified Dementia Professional certification preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter and have a high level of personal accountability
  • Must have previous Management experience
  • Experience working with individuals who have cognitive, physical or sensory disabilities
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with high level of energy and enthusiasm
  • Excellent creative and communication skills
  • Ability to creatively problem-solve in both elder care and employee management situations
  • Experience in training and staff development and ability to motivate others
  • Must be a team player, well organized and flexible.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
