SCHOOL BUS DRIVER
Reports to Transportation Supervisor/Director. Drives bus to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule. Complies with traffic regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Drive a school bus safely and professionally on a regular schedule arranged and posted in the school bus.
- Perform and properly complete daily pre-trip inspections (safety and cleanliness).
- Ensure emergency and safety equipment is present on the bus at all times.
- Comply with the district's school bus operating guidelines.
- Observe and follow all regulations of the State Board of Education and its policies, rules and regulations.
- Comply with all traffic ordinances.
- Consider and adjust bus operation in relation to road and traffic conditions, and comply with the district's policies concerning passenger eligibility to ride the bus.
- Enforce district policy restricting food, drink or unsafe objects on the bus.
- Comply with discipline policies set forth in the School Code of Conduct for Transportation.
- Maintain scheduled stops as per time schedule.
- Report any accidents promptly.
- Ensure passenger safety at all times.
- Notify building principal immediately of any traffic signal malfunction at his/her school.
- Participate in on-site training.
- Show proficiency in handling and maneuvering a school bus.
- Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.
- Manage time appropriately.
- Cooperate with administration, parents, and co-workers.
- Take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Use and apply appropriate conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrate public relations skills.
- Use appropriate techniques, strategies, and materials to achieve the desired instructional goal.
- Report suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Be responsible for students on trips.
- Act as a good role model within the context of school transportation.
Supervises students who access transportation services.
QualificationsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and turn while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently will reach above the head and forward. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp equipment or students.
Occasionally but essentially the employee must be able to drive. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 90 pounds such as students or students in wheel chairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 and below 32 and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.
