Responsible for ensuring aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy to transport medical crew and patient to receiving hospital within an assigned operational area. Must comply with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM), and Air Methods policies and procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Operate Air Methods aircraft safely and legally.
- Complete pre‑flight checks and sign off Daily Flight Log; perform a walk‑around of aircraft before takeoff and after landing.
- Serve as final authority on aircraft operations and safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
- Ensure familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft used in the operational area; make the medical flight team comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
- Complete required documentation.
- Conduct detailed flight planning and meet high standards with limited notice.
- Participate in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent (two‑year college or technical school) and 2–5 years of related experience;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Maintain a weight not to exceed 250 pounds and be under 70 years old.
- Commercial and instrument rating for category and class of aircraft; ATP rating in category;
First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate. - Commercial trainee or in the military with category flight experience within the last 24 months.
- Visual Flight Rules (VFR) minimum flight time requirements: 2,000 total hours (1,500 in category), 1,000 PIC in category, 500 rotor‑wing turbine time, 200 cross‑country (at least 50 night), 100 unaided night PIC (50 unaided can be substituted for 100 NVG but cannot be less than 50 unaided), 50 instrument hours.
