Job Summary: The Policy & Advocacy Associate will be responsible for: 1) designing and executing issue-based campaigns and 2) training directly impacted women to become more effective advocates. Currently, CCF is launching a campaign to pass legislation that repeals the ban on access to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for incarcerated individuals in New York, alongside a broad collaboration of college-in prison program providers and advocacy organizations. The Policy & Advocacy Associate would act as the lead on this campaign - organizing lobby days, preparing materials and otherwise working to get the bill passed this legislative session. The Policy & Advocacy Associate would also be the primary facilitator of CCF’s W.I.S.H. program. This is an eight-week advocacy training program for women affected by mass incarceration, focused on issues-based education, storytelling, and working with advocacy partners in NYC and beyond. The Policy & Advocacy Associate will have many opportunities to work on other issues and programming currently ongoing, including, but not limited to CCF’s community-based work to register individuals to vote through peer education and CCF’s advocacy at the federal level for access to higher education for both currently and formerly incarcerated individuals. As CCF’s policy department continues to grow the Policy & Advocacy Associate will play a critical role in developing the strategic vision of the team moving forward.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage, design and implement issue-based campaigns with assistance from other members of the team
Meet with members of the NY State Legislature and Executive Chamber to provide legislative education and to promote bills, as well as with Federal Representatives and City Councilmembers as needed
Identify innovative opportunities to engage the public and legislators on core policy issues
Draft sign-on letters, one-pagers and other materials for advocacy efforts Work with Associate Director of Communications to draft Op-eds and LTEs and help host press conferences associated with campaigns in your portfolio
Organize advocacy days and other events associated with your campaigns and work with Community Organizer to mobilize individuals to these events
Facilitate WISH training sessions and work to improve the curriculum
Recruit and select WISH participants, coordinate session logistics, provide one-to-one participant guidance and review participant assignments
Work with Director of Development to manage metrics and deliverables for purposes of grant reporting
Collaborate with entire team to promulgate new policy initiatives and corresponding campaigns
Assist with other administrative or clerical tasks as needed

Position Requirements
Bachelor
Core Competencies/Qualifications:

Commitment to criminal justice and centering the voices of directly impacted persons
Experience working on an issue-based or candidate-based campaign required, experience leading a campaign preferred
Exceptional organizational skills and corresponding ability to project manage
Relationship-building skills, experience working with coalitions preferred • Group presentation and facilitation skills, as well as the demonstrated public speaking capability
Writing and research skills
Ability to thrive and learn in a fast-paced environment, comfort in a growth-oriented and changing initiative
Flexibility and willingness for limited travel and occasional events outside work hours
Working knowledge of New York State and/or New York City politics highly desirable, but not required
