About Ethical Culture Fieldston School
Ethical Culture Fieldston School (ECFS) is a progressive independent PreK-12 school serving about 1,700 students on two campuses. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities and is committed to inclusion and belonging.
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Manager of After School & Auxiliary Programs, the After School Staff provides support and assistance in after school classrooms. The role helps promote a well‑organized environment where children can fully engage in the instructional program and ensures their safety at all times.
This onsite position is Monday‑Friday from 3 :00 pm to 5 :15 pm with an hourly rate of $43.33.
The job may be modified to meet changing operational needs.
Responsibilities- Assisting instructors during classroom activities
- Helping after school instructors manage classroom noise and movement
- Supporting children during difficult social interactions, encouraging appropriate language and behavior
- Monitoring children during outdoor play for safety
- Attending professional development sessions as scheduled
- Learning and implementing after school procedures
- Appropriately addressing student behavioral issues while maintaining a safe, organized atmosphere
- Planning and distributing snacks and other activities during transition times
- Assisting in monitoring Pre‑K to 5th grade students during after school check‑in
- Monitoring students during after school dismissal
- Helping keep children calm, organized, and safe during dismissal
- Escorting children to their respective classrooms and ensuring they are safely seated when requested
- Fostering positive relationships with team members and stakeholders
- Maintaining compliance with all school policies, state regulations, and educational standards
- Performing other related projects and duties as needed and assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree or some college coursework
- Ability to remain patient, observant, and proactive in maintaining a positive and safe environment for all students
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills
- Understanding of the basic needs and characteristics of Pre‑K to 5th grade children
- Strong instructional techniques and organizational skills
- Ability to inspire and motivate
- Confidence in staying calm in stressful situations
- CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain one
- Positive attitude, excellent customer service skills, and ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback
- Commitment to cultural competency and fostering an inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds
