The A/V Technician – Sound is responsible for the effective operation of all audio systems for assigned venues and related operations. The role is involved in mixing, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining audio systems across rehearsals, shows, special events, and other onboard activities. In partnership with the A/V Technician – Lighting & Video / A/V Manager, the Technician ensures safe setup, operation, and maintenance of audio equipment.
The position actively participates in all show installations, setups, strikes, and changeovers, and may operate multiple show tracks to support events, rehearsals, and performances.
- Conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times in line with Azamara Cruises’ Go Further Standards.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all sound systems across assigned entertainment venues.
- Design and/or implement sound and stage effect designs for shows and events.
- Create and maintain backup vocal tracks for singers during production show changeovers.
- Set up and assume responsibility for the projection of films, video movies, and other media playback.
- Act as an audio-visual troubleshooter to resolve equipment or stage-related issues as delegated.
- Report equipment requiring repair or replacement following established procedures.
- Meet with guest entertainers and external groups to review and fulfill audio requirements.
- Maintain working knowledge of the ship’s standard operating procedures to assist guests and crew.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, courses, and work‑related activities.
- Participate in mandatory crew and guest safety drills.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS Education & ProfessionalExperience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Theatre (Production or Technical) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum one year of audio-visual experience in upscale venues; shipboard experience preferred.
- Proficiency with digital mixing consoles and QLab.
- Cruise line or touring experience preferred.
Skills:
- Knowledge of sound, lighting, video systems; automation and rigging experience is a plus.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate technical support needs.
- Intermediate computer software skills.
- Strong problem‑solving, organizational, and decision‑making abilities.
Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Superior customer service, team‑building, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Effective communication with multiple onboard departments.
- Remain professional and effective under high stress and tight deadlines.

- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Reading and writing English for procedures and instructions.
- Additional languages such as Spanish, French, or German are preferred.
- Work at height using harnesses, Genies, and ladders.
- Stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs (25 kg).
- Required vision abilities and emergency lifeboat operational capacities.
- Compliance with onboard safety regulations.
- Pass required pre‑employment medical screening and vaccinations.
- Work seven days per week for contracts up to eight months.
- Live and work in close quarters with diverse coworkers.
- Valid passport with at least seven months beyond contract end.
- Possession of or ability to acquire a Seaman’s book.
- Obtain required visas for sailing itinerary.
- Complete STCW training before embarkation.
