Overview
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. While MAP provides direct educational and mentoring support, it also advances long-term structural solutions that address housing instability at its core.
Promise Housing is MAP’s housing and real estate development division, focused on creating dignified, sustainable housing for families. Philanthropic investment—across foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors—is essential to launching projects, closing funding gaps, and sustaining impact beyond public funding.
Role OverviewThe Development & Philanthropy Manager – Promise Housing leads relationship-based fundraising efforts that support housing development and long-term stability initiatives. This role focuses on cultivating foundations

, and mission-aligned donors whose values align with equity, dignity, and community-centered housing. The ideal candidate is a strong relationship builder who understands philanthropic strategy and can translate complex housing initiatives into compelling, fundable narratives.
- Develop and execute philanthropic strategies to support Promise Housing initiatives
- Cultivate and steward relationships with foundations, corporate housing partners, and mission-aligned donors
- Identify and pursue private funding opportunities that complement public housing subsidies
- Collaborate with housing, finance, and leadership teams to align fundraising priorities with project needs
- Prepare donor-facing materials, proposals, and impact narratives
- Coordinate donor stewardship, reporting, and ongoing relationship management
- Track fundraising activity, commitments, and outcomes
- Advise leadership on philanthropic trends, risks, and partnership opportunities
- Experience in nonprofit development, philanthropy, or partnership-building
- Strong relationship management and communication skills
- Ability to translate housing and community impact into compelling donor narratives
- Organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple relationships
- Alignment with MAP’s mission and equity-centered housing values
- Experience working with foundations or corporate philanthropy
- Familiarity with housing, community development, or social-impact initiatives
- Experience securing major gifts or multi-year commitments
- Comfort collaborating with senior leadership and external partners
- Senior volunteer role within the Promise Housing division
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Remote work with periodic NYC-based coordination
- Leadership experience in housing-focused philanthropy and development
- Direct involvement in funding dignified housing solutions for families
- Collaboration with nonprofit, housing, and finance leadership
- Professional recognition and letters of recommendation upon completion
