Description of Work:

The primary role of the Business Specialist is to perform sales and service functions for business customers, including new accounts, loan referrals, cash management, merchant services referrals, and all other business related products. The Business Specialist will proactively target sales opportunities in a designated business trade area with a focus on small business owners, professionals, and real estate investors / developers. The Business Specialist will independently source business deposits and new accounts to be opened and managed by the retail branches. He / She will establish and maintain contacts with centers of influence (COI's) and build business customer relationships while supporting branch deposit and account unit goals. The Business Specialist will target lending and cash management opportunities by identifying prospects and cultivating relationships for referral to Business Development Officers (BDO's). The Business Specialist serves as a resource and mentor to the branch teams in leveraging the Bank's strong business banking, commercial real estate, and mixed use and residential lending programs. The Business Specialist has appropriate levels of approval and override authority to effectively complete assigned functions.

General Statement of Duties:

1. Proactively source, acquire, retain, and deepen customer relationships by maximizing business sales and lending opportunities. Achieve and surpass scorecard goals, including checking unit and portfolio balance goals, as outlined in the Retail Incentive Program.

2. Utilize a consultative sales approach to identify new business opportunities and engage clients and prospects in collaborative needs-based conversations. Recommend appropriate solutions to facilitate deposit acquisition and assist the BDO's in compiling credit applications and supporting documents.

3. Source business deposits and new accounts to grow the business deposit portfolio at designated branch(es), targeting sales opportunities and selling to new and existing customers, with a focus on small business owners, professionals, and real estate investors / developers.

4. Understand client business and personal needs and financial goals; identify credit opportunities and offer appropriate solutions; refer to investment partners (Financial Consultants) when appropriate. Identify clients with higher levels of personal investable assets and offer Premier checking banking package. Introduce business prospects to Branch Managers and Premier Bankers to establish relationships for Flushing Bank's consumer deposit solutions.

5. Ensure a positive customer experience for all sales and service interactions.

6. Develop and execute calling strategies to target prospects for Flushing Bank's products and services. Network in person and over the phone with business owners and key decision makers to build Branch portfolio(s) and introduce additional products and services to existing customers.

7. Represent Flushing Bank in various business, civic, and community functions to enhance the Bank's image and grow the business. May include attending evening or weekend functions.

8. Engage BDO's as necessary to establish and expand deposit relationships or offer credit and cash management solutions. Meet established lending referral goals.

9. Participate in sales meetings, sharing best practices, and offering feedback to management on enhancing individual performance as well as supporting team performance.

Supervision Exercised:

Under the direction of the SVP / Director of Retail Business Development, the Business Specialist is responsible for identifying, sourcing, opening, and retaining business account and deposit relationships, and for referring lending to the BDO's. Business Specialists may exercise sales and system functions requiring specified levels of authority, which are granted by the SVP / Director of Retail Business Development as appropriate to develop the sales and service culture of the branch.
