The Security Officer will work closely with Security Team Leaders to maintain a safe and secure environment for our employees, tenants, and visitors.

Current pay rate is $21.20 per hour. Additionally, this position would be eligible for overtime for all hours actually worked, consistent with the Local 32BJ Collective Bargaining Agreement. The overtime rate is $31.80 per hour. Please note that wages are subject to tax with holdings and other applicable deductions.

This position will have midweek days off. Salary is $22.20 per hour.

Responsibilities:

• Security Officers will be required to execute a number of comprehensive and integrated security measures and countermeasures and must be able to adapt physically to the changing needs and priorities of the Security Organization.
• Security posts may vary and may include exposure to varying weather conditions.

Qualifications:

• Strong verbal communication skills
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
• Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
• Must possess agility, and visual and auditory acuity to perform the essential responsibilities of this position
• Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously in both emergency and non- emergency situations
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, typically for the duration of an 8-hour shift
• Must have a technical aptitude and willingness to learn how to perform security x-ray and screening procedure and use required equipment
• Knowledgeable and ability to use x-ray image recognition, Magnetometer alarm resolution, and related technologies preferred
• Successful candidates will have earned their high school diplomas or equivalent. College level course coursework is a plus
• Must possess a valid New York State Security Guard License (8 & 16 hours)

Physical demands - While performing duties of this job, employee required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; crouch; bend; talk; and hear. The employee must lift and move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment - The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
