Position: Youth Conservation Corps. (YCC) Team Member

Overview

These summer YCC positions may be available:

Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Member: $15.00 - Multiple summer youth employment positions for young people aged 14 – 21 years of age with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Division of Parks and Recreation. Positions available on Field Teams working in each of the three counties, and individual park placements in one of the 17 DE State Parks statewide.

All members complete park-based projects that impact visitor experience and conservation and trail projects throughout state parks in the team’s region.

All positions are seasonal positions working up to 28 hours per week for 6 weeks, June 15, 2026 – July 31, 2026.

The mission of the Delaware State Parks YCC is to engage youth in important conservation and park projects while providing learning that fosters teamwork, self-esteem, social responsibility, and respect for the environment.

YCC Core components include:

  • Practical job work experience.
  • Environmental education and experiences.
  • Job and/or college preparation.

Consideration will also be given to students who are unable to adhere to these dates because of snow days and school schedule in June.

Responsibilities

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Assists with Park based projects.
  • Assists with native and invasive plant survey and identification.
  • Trail Maintenance and possible trail reconstruction/constructions projects.
  • Litter cleanup and waterway and shoreline cleanup.
  • Assists Conservation Technicians with grounds work throughout the park.
  • Assist Park visitors with facility and/or park resources use.
  • Assist in maintaining park resources and facilities.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

    Work shirts, protective equipment and tools will be provided.

    Transportation from base site to work area will be provided.

    * This is an environmental stewardship summer job, not a summer camp experience; the participants will work hard, sometimes in difficult conditions including mud, hot sun, and mosquitoes and flies.
